My wired internet connection isn't working, despite the fact that my wireless is. It is an issue that is present on both my PC and Laptop, and only started when I moved into university accommodation, and began to use their network. Even plugging in the ethernet cable disables the wireless internet, and I am unsure of what is preventing it from receiving an internet connection. As of now, I'm not aware of any inherent flaw in the ISP's ability to provide wired internet as I've seen it work here before.

Any thoughts?

I'm on Windows 7, and I believe I don't have a static IP address, although the ipconfig/all shows that some DHCP enabled lines have a "no" next to them, while the DHCP enabled lines near the top have a 'yes'

I can't see anything wrong with the wired Network adapter. Drivers are apparently up to date.

I'm fairly sure that other people in this accommodation are able to use the wired connection.

Ok try this :

Startup the Services window (Start -> Run -> "services.msc"), then look for a line labeled "DHCP Client". Make sure that the Status column shows "Started" and the Startup Type column is "Automatic". If not, double-click on that line and make it that way

To another network? Both the PC and Laptop were at one point connected to an Ethernet cable at home, which worked fine.

well i think the problem is coming from the wall port ( not activated or having some issues ) . you can ask a friend to connect the laptop with cable to make sure .

Have you tried multiple Cat 5e cables? If so it could be a mastersocket problem, test the cable first, if fails then ring your ISP and request an engineer to come replace the socket

check if DHCP client service is enable:

1)Click Start. In the search box, type services.msc.
2)In Services(Local),find "DHCP Client”, check the service status “start".

The internet has worked very intermittently with the wired connection, and I have talked to the ISP, and apparently there were issues with the IPV4 addresses and such.

It sounds like it's a problem with your ISP's DHCP Server, if so it should be up and running very shortly :)

As much as I'd like to be optimistic, but I feel that it is an issue on my end, as the ISP support so far has been unable to resolve my issue.

Would it be worth detailing things like the IPV4 addresses with you guys, just in case it makes a suggestion clearer?

Yes sure, the more information you provide us the better unstanding I have of the issue and the more likely your issue will be resolved

It's quite strange. For example my IPV4 default gateway, DHCP server, DNS server are all 10.0.1.1.
