Graphics Driver crashes at high temperatures

So, basically like the title says, I get graphics driver crashes when my GPU reaches high temperatures, which sucks because I heard that it's kind of inevitable for a graphics card to run games at high settings without getting hot. I haven't locked down the exact temperature but it generally happens when my GPU get around 67-70*C. I own the GTX 660 Zotac Edition.

I recently had my PC upgraded (CPU, Motherboard and RAM) so I'm wondering if that is doing anything for whatever reason. I upgraded from the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition to the Intel i7 4770. Obviously I also had to change the motherboard and I got a better set of RAM while I was at it. I checked and it's all compatible.

As for the games crashing it happens a bit different for every game I play for example in ROME 2 I would get a black screen even though the game is still running in the background. As in I can still hear the game sounds when I click buttons in the game and things like that. In Watch_Dogs I get weird stuttering frame rate drop issue. I also played Planetside 2 where I start getting some weird sound distortion and a CTD after. All this happens when the GPU reaches high temperatures.

Convenient enough, I had the opportunity to test this on different graphics drivers as I though the problem was there. First I had this issue on the 340.XX Nvidia Driver and then the recent 344.11 driver but the problem still persists. I even did the clean install when updating but it didn't help. I started using the MSI Afterburner to increase the fan RPM in my GPU although there doesn't seem to be a big temperature drop even if the fan is spinning at 60%. I also re-applied some thermal paste to the GPU but still nothing.

If anybody knows how I could fix this please help and thank you in advance and if you need more details, please ask.

Guess you could try to disable the integrated graphics from BIOS, but at this point I'm pretty confident the problem is in your VRAM.

You could try to underclock your Vmemory rate with MSi Afterburner, that could just do the trick to regain stability, otherwise seems it's time to get a new GPU.

My CPU generally stays around 50-55*C. Occasionally it might go a bit higher but I never ever seen it exceed 60*C though I heard that Intel processors can withstand the heat pretty well anyway so I don't think the problem lies there.

As for the graphics card its about a year old.

hmm test your GPU with Furmark, lets see if a burn-in test causes the same problem, temps shouldn't be causing your issue so there's the chance that it's a VRAM problem, furmark won't saturate your VRAM so if that's the case furmark will run without problems while keeping your temps above 70ºC.

I ran Furmark for about 10min and my GPU stayed at a constant 71*C without any crashes. I guess your right and it's not the temperature.

On a side note, I use the Intel HD Graphics 4600 for my processor along with the GTX 660 and I'm not sure if that maybe causes some crashes? Should I leave it or get rid of it?
