The AMD, msi, GIGABYTE Radeon R9 270X graphic cards, whats the difference?

OK so they are different companies, those that mean it changes performance, compatibility.

They look different and have different prices so why do they have the same name

example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

sorry if this is a NOOB question, but i want to know :)

r9-270x is the name of the AMD GPU being used on the board.
For nvidia it would be the GT/GTX name, like GTX690 or GT610

There is not much of a difference in different brands some have 3 fans some are more cooler some have little bit of more clock speed thats it performance wise they are more or less the same like sapphire trix r9 270x is the fastest with more clock speed which will give you 2-3 fps more than some other models .

The R9 270X is a chipset. AMD makes a reference design, manufacturers are license the chipset to copy that or modify it, which many do, and sell their own versions of the card. This is how both Nvidia and AMD work for gaming GPUs.

r9-270x is the chipset made from AMD, that chipset is used in all of those video cards, the difference from one brand to another is usually the clock frequencies they set the chipset at, the warranty policies each company has, the cooling solution on each board and sometimes the PCB layout.

The factors you should consider when choosing one over another is the cooling solution (these Rx-2xx series from AMD throttle down too much if they pass certain temp threshold so you want a good cooling system) and the warranty policy.

Just what Popatim said, AMD designs the graphic chips(R9 270x, R9 280x, R7 260x etc), another company actually makes the graphical chips for them to distribute them out to other third parties(MSI, GIGABYTE, ASUS etc)... Then the third parties can twist the specs to there liking.

EXAMPLE: MSI Gaming 270x vs GIGABYTE Windforce : MSI has designed a special cooling design for there product, along with that they can overclock there cards different from other brands.

The gigabyte card, has 3 fans which is what Gigabyte's special cooling is(the heat sink is a triangle-like with the fans pushing the heat).

End result, there are different prices based on the features the third party companies include with there design, they may overclock, have better cooling, longer warranty etc.
