Fx 6300 upgrade

Hi,
When it comes to Christmas im thinking of upgrading my CPU.
The reason for the upgrade is i play alot of ARMA 2, 3 and Dayz and i get poor fps, ive narrowed it down to the cpu being the cause.
Ive got a budget of around £250 maybe £300 and will need a motherboard and cpu.
im thinking of getting:
i5 4690k with a msi z87m motherboard on scan this adds up to £254
Any other Recomendations please? would an i7 with a cheaper motherboard benefit me more?

...you can overclock on both of those setups.

Also, do not expect any real FPS gains from this switch. Your GPU is what is holding you back most.

How about an i7 4790 with a cheaper motherboard? or do you think thats overkill?

Don't go for an i7. no gaming performance gains over an i5.

If you are not overclocking get an i5 4460 and an h97 board.

The thing is ive got a friend who has an i7 with a Gtx 750 and he gets alot better fps than me and another friend with a gtx 550ti with better fps than me. ive googled and found that amd processors dont run no where near as well as intel on arma 3

An i7 is not what you want. You want an i5. If you are overclocking get either of the options posted above.

Always glad to help. Also note that your 7850 is significantly better than the 750 and 550ti. ARMA 3 has some of the worst game coding in the history of video games so the i5 should make a big difference. In other games you will likely see no difference though.

It literally is the only reason i want to upgrade, only recently got Arma 3 and i will most likely play it for many years to come so to me its worth it, plus the advantage on dayz mod with more fps
