Alright so I built this computer about 6-7 years ago. Upgraded GPU once, and i've been through a couple HDD. But I've finally met a match in Planetside 2, and decided it's time for another tune up. I'm very tight on budget right now, so I think maybe I can just upgrade the CPU and GPU and see how much more I can milk outta this.

Motherboard: p5w DH Deluxe http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5W_DH_Deluxe/
GPU: Radeon HD 5870
CPU: E6600 (wow what a great CPU for it's time btw)
RAM: DDR2, 4gb
SPU: Creative SB X-fi
PSU: Corsair TX750W

I think he meant that its not worth putting money into your current build. The build he posted would be a pretty major upgrade from what you have right now.

Personally, I would do something like this:

This build does not allow for overclocking but the current gen i5s don't need to be OC'd IMO. Dual channel ram gets you 10-15% more performance (out of the ram). Also, I am not a fan of the corsair cx power supply units due to some poor hardware. The Seasonic M12II Evo is much better quality.

Well I can recycle my case at least. I haven't been keeping up in the hardware circuit, so is there any reason I would need to upgrade PSUs? Would I be missing the right connectors?

I'm not sure what case you have but it is probably fine to reuse if you like it. Just clean it out real well before you put the new parts in. The Corsiar TX 750 should be fine as well and should have all the connectors you need.
