Hello and thank you for the help. I have a Sapphire Radeon R9 280X video card and have been running it with 2 monitors just fine. I recently bought a third monitor of the same type and tried to hook it up but I can't get all 3 to activate at the same time. I did try to do some research and have seen people with the same card able to activate all 3 monitors without the need of an active adapter by running 2 DVI and 1 HDMI (which I have currently).

The three monitors I have are DELL S2340M, Acer G237HL, and Acer H236HL. All 23 inch, IPS, 60hz monitors in 1920x1080. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should check your video card's program you might have to set it up from there. (a program to set up your video card settings)

If you mean Catalyst Control Center then I have been messing around with it for a while and can't seem to get it to activate the third monitor. It shows that it is enabled but it only ever lets me choose 2 of 3 of them to show up

On the Sapphire website it says "supports up to 3 display monitor(s) without DisplayPort
4 x Maximum Display Monitor(s) support
To support 3rd monitor without DisplayPort cable connected, 2 of the 3 monitors should be the same model with DVI ports connected. The driver version should be v13.12 or above."

Is it because the 3 monitors are not the exact same model that I can't set them up? why does the model matter?

The monitor's model shouldn't matter. Every time you get a new monitor or just set up most of the time you have to use the settings to configure them so they all work. Update the driver version see if that works
