Hello there, I need help.
I recently built a gaming computer, and it was working fine, when suddenly the internet stopped working. When I troubleshoot, it says that my "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP Configuration".
What's wrong? How do I fix it?

System information:
OS: Windows 8.1 OEM
CPU: i4690k
Motherboard: Gigabyte G97 Gaming 5
GPU: ASUS GTX 770
Memory: G-Skill Ripjaws X 1866 8gb

Thanks

Shut down your system. Unplug your modem/router and leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds. Plug the modem/router in again. Once your modem/router has completed it's self test, power up the PC and test your Internet connection.

I am connected via ethernet cable that in turn connects with a Cisco DPC3825 router. By the way, if you need to know anything else, tell me where to find it. I am fairly new at this and don't know much about how to find stuff.

Thanks for your reply!

Thank you so much I can't believe it was that simple. Any idea what could cause this and if it will happen again?

it's some sort of problem either with your downstream Internet connection or with the way the router/modem is configured. Personally I really dislike the router/modem combo boxes, they suck.

Not sure what causes this. It could be a power fluctuation within your home. It could be a reset from your Internet Service Provider. It could be E.T. for all I know. :pt1cable:

As for whether or not it will happen again, I'm fairly certain it will. Just remember. The first step in troubleshooting should be a reboot. If not of the PC, then of the router/modem.

So what do you recommend instead?

you could consider getting a standalone modem and a standalone router.
