Friend needs help on first build.

Hey so my Friend who is not as tech savvy as most pc users is going to build a new pc with my help and I thought I would start putting together a list on pcpart pick but i wanted Some outside opinions on what would be a good build.
He is looking at a price range of 1000 tops including a monitor and windows.
Also i would love to have a few different build like on AMD build and One Intel build/Nvidia or AMD card. Any help would be great also he might not build for bit so I don't know if this list will get outdated by then so i might have to ask this again.

Aside from the fact that it's pointless for anybody to spend time working up a build for you if you're not planning to follow through in the near future, since the prices of parts and availability often changes within days, this really should be posted in a more appropriate area like systems or components. I'll see if a mod can move it for you.

There is zero point in figuring this out right now...unless you have a good solid timeframe for the build. New components come out all of the time, and what is awesome and in the budget right now may become mediocre later on. So when do you plan on building? If you don't plan on building within a reasonable timeframe of the next month or two, then you can just search the forums for others that have posted the same topics but do plan on building soon to get ideas.
