Hello, I am having trouble setting my RAM to 1600MHz. Fairly new to BIOS/UEFI and when I tried to find the 1600MHz preset there was not one included, also some very weird speeds were shown (yes I understand x2 concept) so i decided to run an XMP profile and set timings myself, which I do not know all settings and only the popular 9-9-9-24.. well after i did this my computer will not boot the first time.. i will have to turn on and hear fans etc run then hard power off and power back on then windows will actually boot up. after searching and searching and finding nothing i set BIOS back to default settings and RAM speed back to 1333MHz and now boots up fine. So what am I doing wrong? please excuse as i am a noob when it comes to overclocking/BIOS/UEFI and only starting to get into computers. see below for components and i greatly appreciate any and all answers! thanks!

Think your mobo uses DOCP for the DRAM profiles, look for that and enable then select the DRAM's spec freq

No worries, AMD rigs can be a bit of a pain, some of the newer ones run XMP for for memory profiles, on older mobos it's often DOCP or EOCP and then again some of the newer use what they call AMP for memory profiles, so you have to search around.

The fx6300 will be holding it back. You can get a custom cooler and OC the 6300 or just buy an 8320.

so the 6300 is holding the 970 back? i have a old h50 water cooler for it but the last time i tried to OC to 4.3GHz i messed it up... noob when it comes to OC CPU's. also that mobo probably isnt the best for OCing
