This may not be the right place to ask this but I have my stuff pretty much picked out. Going with the i5 4690k, Sabertooth Z97 mark2, Intel 520 seried 240GB SSD and probably a coolermaster 212evo. I have the other stuff already. Do you guys have much experience with the holiday season sales? Are these components good candidates for significant markdowns? Or is there new gear on the horizon worth waiting a couple more months for? It's getting harder to wait but if I can turn this $550 in parts to say $400-$450 it might be worth the wait.

They most likely won't. Since I've been on this board I've often monitored black Friday trends and what I've noticed is that big ticket items - processors, motherboards, high end graphics cards - those things almost never get discounted. OK you'll occasionally see the "$45 Intel HXX motherboard" advertisement, but for the most part it's usually the cheap...

The parts I'll be buying are i5 4690k with a 212 evo to cool it, Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 and an intel 520 series 240 or 256 (can't remember the value on it) GB ssd.

Dang. 4690k will drop a little.. not much. Nowhere below $194. 212 Evo will drop to no where lower than $25. As for the Sabertooth it's hard to say. As for SSDs.. They drop. Like a lot. But is there any reason you are going for the Mark 2? Before I was debating between the MPower, Mark 2 and Mark 1. Then I did tons of research and landed on the VII Hero. Best decision I ever made

Also, sounds like I'll probably buy my other stuff now so I can play with a new build and change over to the ssd at Christmas time. I have a hard drive that will be fine, just not as fast as an ssd. And just to be clear, the hero board you are talking about is the one that costs like $210? I was trying to stay under $150 on the mobo but I think the extra $20 is worth it and doable. Not sure I can splurge up to over $200. :-\ what does the hero have that the sabertooth lacks?

Quality and features! Also the looks of course. Sabertooth boards are so over priced it's sad. Sorry I didnnt know the price was so out of range between the two. In Canada the hero is about $20 more than the sabertooth.. The UD5H is also very good

That ud5h dos look nice. 10 bucks more than the and real nice features. The one thing that keeps me thinking of going with the sabertooth is the 5 year warranty they advertise. That seems like a real nice deal if they honor it

Yes it does.. Only thing's I have up my sleave in that budget would be the UD5H, Z97-A or the HERO. And the HERO can't be suggested considering how much more it is. Honestly the value/performance ratio just isn;t there for SABERTOOTH boards.. And don;t watch ASUS advertising those boards on video. They sell it like it has premium grade chokes when really they are just standard. I would get the Z97-A as a value oriented motherboard.. Then the UD5H as something between the Z97-A and the HERO. Hope that helped your decision. Remember that it is your money and your choice

OK you'll occasionally see the "$45 Intel HXX motherboard" advertisement, but for the most part it's usually the cheap junk or high inventory items that are the ones that get heavily discounted. You'll see some discounts on some high end cases and power supplies but they won't really be that discounted.

As others have said, black fri and cyber monday deals are hit and miss. black fri appears to be all month long and if it's newegg you're looking at for parts, believe it when they say a part is on sale through a certain date. the next day, the price hikes back to normal. doubt the i5 4690k will be discounted much, it's a new(ish) release and intel cpu's don't get heavily discounted. not like amd.

i'm posting because right now the cheapest i've found the 4690k was through ncixus.com for 219 + $3 insurance. glad i grabbed it, it's not avail now. i literally bought it yesterday. it might become avail again but you need to keep checking someplace like pcpartpicker.com (that's how i found it).

i also picked up the gigabyte ud5h z97 mobo for $149 ($40 off) plus it has a $20 mir on newegg. 129 for a 189 mobo isn't bad. team ram was on sale $10 off (2x4gb ddr3), no deal on the cm hyper 212 evo - $35 at newegg, but all together i also had a coupon code in my email for another 5% off ($12.50).

All in all, compared to newegg retail, i saved around $102.50 and black fri/cyber mon haven't even hit yet. even if there's slightly better deals i don't think they'll be much better honestly and no guarantee it'll be deals on the stuff i wanted (that was discounted now). no stressing over missing a deal since i think i got a pretty good bargain and that alone is worth it to me since this stuff is going to be an upgrade for someone as a christmas present.

ymmv, but keep checking because some deals are just for a few hours or days. if it looks good and it's what you want, i'd get it rather than waiting. even if the best stuff is discounted for cyber monday, chances are it'll be a roll of the dice when you're competing with everyone else for the same things. good luck.

Keep in mind that the CPUs being offered are all previous generation - none of the 8000 series or Ryzen CPUs are going to be discounted. Same with the GPUs.
