Hi, this is my rig
AMD FX 6300
ASUS M5A78 LX
CORSAIR CX430
CM Hyper 212
WD BLUE 500GB
CM ELITE 310
Corsair Vengeance 8gb

I'm planning to buy a R9 270x.

I have shortlisted a few

http://mdcomputers.in/products/graphics-card/sapphire-g...

http://mdcomputers.in/products/graphics-card/asus-r9-27...

http://mdcomputers.in/products/graphics-card/sapphire-g...

I have a few questions.

Do I need to upgrade my Psu? Been using the current one since 2 years.

The budget is 18000 - 20000 rupees (for PSU and GPU) thats $300 on an average and a r9 280 is falling in it.

Should I purchase a r9 280 or purchase a r9 270x ?

You should yes. A new psu is a great idea. I am always the first to defend the cx series as it is not really recommended here. A quality psu of 550 watts should be fine. Please don't get the 270x toxic With the 270x the value isnt there.

Can I recommend this?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

Base clock is 1100Mhz and turbo is 1140Mhz

The toxic version is only 50Mhz or approximately half a frame per second faster and almost 100 dollars more.

Have you looked at r9 285's or 280's? they are cheaper than the toxic and will be faster no matter how much overclocking you do.
r9 285

or 280 which is strangely cheaper and faster.

The 280 is only cheaper because it has come to the end of it's shelf life, it offers more performance and better overclocking results than the 285 or the 270 toxic.

The toxic lineup is great usually among the best but in this scenario it is a bigtime loser as the price is way too high.

For the psu just pic something from this page, ultimately any of them should be enough.

Yes the cx 600 will do it just fine despite what anyone else says

Hi, thanks for your reply. Please check this website - - - www.mdcomputers.in
I ll be purchasing from somewhere else (they don't have a website) where price is around a 1000 less than this site. But this is the cheapest seller here.
My budget is 18000 and can go to max 20000 in my currency for everything. I don't want to go below a 270x vapor x which I am getting for 15200.

Well I guess you are from India, and I think the r9 280 is the best one for you, You will get only the dualX version of the card from sapphire, I would recommend you take the asus DC2 version of the card.
it has better cooling and its like Rs.17500, well if you live in Kolkata you can personally go and buy the card and you get a rs.1000 discount(internet prices are always higher you know-specially for these shops), I know the shopkeeper personally or else you can buy from this one http://vedantcomputers.com/ they provide better service and give more discounts if you can talk with the shop owner directly.

This fits your budget and is a better performer
http://mdcomputers.in/products/graphics-card/msi-graphi...

That or a 280, just find one that fits your case.

It is hard to advise you when I can not see what your options are.

I just checked the conversion rates and prices in India, you are paying double for the card as we would here in Canada. That really sucks. And by the way there are no issues with the r9280.
