Hi, I am a newbie when it comes to overclocking. I have i7 4770k and Gigabyte z87m-ud3h mobo. I have followed a lot of OCing guides but everytime I overclock my cpu I keep getting BSOD. I am using OCCT:Linpack for stress test and benchmark. Running stress test using default settings and stock clock I can achieve 3.8 ghz at 1.135v. So I tried OCing to 4.0ghz at 1.5v but it crashed. I even raised the cpu core voltage to 1.18v and cpu ring voltage to 1.17 but it still crashed. I need some advice on how I can properly OC my proc. Or is it my chip bad? :??:

What kind of temps are you getting?

Set everything to default settings, change CPU voltage to 1.25v, set CPU multiplier to 45 and see if it boots. If yes, test it a bit, see if stable, if yes, try 46 multi, if not go for 44. If it does not boot to windows, drop to 44, etc.

Your temps are killing it. You need to be able to keep the temperature below 75, preferably lower if you want it to be stable. With the 3rd and 4th generation processors intel decided to use cheap thermal paste under the IHS on the processor which sucks at transferring heat. I'll link a video on how to de-lid your processor but it's not a process for the faint of heart.

The h100i will cool it but probably never to the point of getting a decent overclock. It sounds like you just have a really bad example of terrible thermal paste too.
