I'm guessing the majority of the 970s are still ok, but seeing the complaints, the amount of cards with issues is definitely much higher than normal.Im thinking to buy asus strix 970 ,what are your thoughts now after last days or experience with her?Do you think it would be better to go for msi?I dont know what to do ..

Performance will be good with any 970 cards. But people choose MSI and Gigabyte because they have better performance. And MSI is most popular because its mix between Strix silence and Gigabytes performance and offers good OC potential. If MSI didnt have coil whine issues on ONLY SOME cards and those fan issues also ONLY ON SOME cards then it would be perfect.

alex i think that the asus and the strix the same cards are, hahaha.
i prefer msi over asus, first of i dont like the looks, and i dont like the fact that it has only 1 power connector.
And i have not seen any where that if you have both good cards, the asus clocks higher, yes if you have a msi card that dont whant to clock good, then the asus can clock higher, but with both cards good, no way.

I like that it has one 8-pin instead of two 6-pin connectors (both give 150W), because it's one cable less. I think having an 8-pin AND a 6-pin on this card would only be beneficial if you're gonna do some extreme overclocking with watercooling or something.
Sucks tho that i got a card with stupid noise issues, sending it back today...

oke but the msi has not 2x 6 pin, but 1 6 and 1 8 pin.

Im not sure if I will oc the card because I dont know how we do it and If I need to do it..
How about evga ftw edition(the only bad thing I heard is that makes a little more noise compare to msi, asus) and can you guys tell me whats the best choice??
btw I read that most of 970 have coil whine issues.

You can compare gpus here : http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_97...
Gigabyte has better performance and OC -ing, just a bit. Adds a few FPS. I would recommend you to wait till new (hopefully fixed) cards are out in the stock and order only then. I live too far from US, if I will get a defective card returning it will be hell, so I won't risk for now.

Paying more for older model when you can buy a newer one thats gonna beat it and cost less.

So with everything we know atm, which is the best card to choose? My card still hasn't shipped yet so I could still change it to a STRIX if its any better. Plus, they're about $10 cheaper on Amazon than then MSI.MSI model if you want smaller and quieter, but Gigabyte is you want a bit more OC ability and bit better temperatures. Keep in mind that Gigabyte one is long so chech if it fits in your case.

So which one out of the three gives better solid performance? I'm not really an overclocker, so it will probably stay on the cards factory clock unless I feel an absolute need to overclock.

well I got the Gigabyte cards to around 1550mhz with a +100 to memory clock as well...anything past this was getting some artifacts. I got the MSI cards to about 1520mhz or so and didn't touch the memory clock
The gigabyte cards also run cooler and just feel much more solid considering the metal and backplates...also ironically holding both the MSI and Gigabyte in each hand the Giga is lighter...even though it's bigger and has a backplate...very interesting
One drawback is I still get a buzz noise during FireStrike...I don't think I'm going to be able to get rid of that...considering my GTX 670 has the buzz too it's either normal and I never noticed before or I need to upgrade other parts I don't want to bother with right now. Plus a lot of people seem to have this issue so i'm not worried about it.
Overall I think I like the Giga cards a touch more...they run cooler, are lighter, have a backplate and for me at least OC just a touch better without touching the voltage.

The Gigabyte cards are likely to OC a bit better since they have a higher BIOS power limit. This could change once we can flash a custom BIOS, though.
Gigabyte G1 - 280W with max power limit
MSI Gaming - 220W with max power limit
ASUS STRIX - 193W with max power limit
Most other cards are around 160W.

Oh alright makes sense. Yeah i'm liking the Giga cards for sure...only drawback is I'm still getting the buzzing noise under load just like with the MSI cards. I guess I can't avoid that with the GTX 970 cards as these are my 5th and 6th GTX 970 card I've tested >.<....I had tested four MSI's all with the buzz and now two Giga's with the buzz...

Coil whine is pretty common with these cards. Many are reporting the issue over at the OCN 970 Owners Club. It can be caused by your PSU, though, but it's unlikely.

Why didn't you touch the memory clock? The mem clock adds more performance. I have mine at +550 and notice fps increase, with gpu clock being +220. Adding more voltage doesn't allow me to OC higher. I have my voltage sitting at 50% increase just for "possible" stability.

Well I never touched the mem clock before...but yeah I went and tried +400mhz with the Giga cards and got a couple hundred points on FireStrike so yeah that helps

Ok guyz. I got my MSI tested on some games. The games i tested on were AC2 AC3 and Max Payne 3 on Ultra. Results were good. My CPU didnt get hotter than 40C and MSI has NO coil whine and its fans work perfectly. I started Max Payne 3 and the fans started spinning. Both of them. I think the results are good. Also only noise the card makes is this high pitch buzzing but i can hear it when i open the sidepanel and put my ear next to it. I am quite satisfied with the results

Newegg just got the Gigabyte cards back in stock so I ordered 2 more. This is my last attempt to see if I can get a card that doesn't buzz. If these last 2 buzz that will be four MSI and four Giga cards all tested with buzz and I will say that this is either normal or something else is going on with my system. After 8 tries I think that will prove it to myself to stop ordering these cards >.< lol.

Lol nah...I'm returning them right after I test them...I have to make use of Newegg Premier
I did run my second two MSI cards for a week and the buzz didn't subside...so I'm not too sure if it will go away for me
. Maybe it takes longer than a week though...I'm almost about to order a new PSU to just see if it works.

A new PSU may help, but it's unlikely. I guess you could also say that getting coil whine with six different cards is also unlikely, though.

I think as long as it doest affect its lifetime or performance it doesnt matter to me at all. I can barely hear it and it performs well for me. I am satisfied

I am quite satisfied with the resultsYep that buzzing noise seems to be what myself and a ton of people are getting. I got it with four different MSI cards and now two different Gigabyte cards. It's not really audible until you open the side panel or get your head right next to the case.
You're taking all of the cards, man!
The buzzing may go away after a while. Quite a few people are reporting it goes away after some good use.
What is your current PSU?
A new PSU may help, but it's unlikely. I guess you could also say that getting coil whine with six different cards is also unlikely, though.
I have a 1000W Cooler Master Silent Gold...had it for a few years now...I don't think it's ever really given me an issue...
Well, you may want to try a new one. If you do buy one, I recommend the EVGA SuperNova G2 750W. Here is the JonnyGURU review.
750W is more than enough for 970 SLI. For $79.99 after MIR it's an absolutely amazing deal.

I heard EVGA and Corsair HX series are the two really good ones...I was thinking of buying one and hooking it up to give it a shot...if I still have a buzz then return it with newegg premier or amazon prime like I've been doing with the video cards
....really using my subscriptions to both of those online stores lately
I was actually thinking this one?

Oh for real? So the time and effort may not be worth it then....hmmm probably why so many people have the buzzing noise...we can't all have bad PSUs! lol....good thing I game with a headset
But it is odd I still could hear buzzing with my old GPU so it might be a different issue for me in particular...I'll try the last two cards and see how it goes, then maaaaaaaaaaaaayyybe I'll try a new psu if I have to...but i'm very skeptical....I just want to try every option to see if I can get the buzz to cease. It seems a few lucky people have no noise so I want to get that too...although I wonder if some of those people just aren't listening to their card closely during benchmarks with the side panel off.
Also dawis according to your GTA post...I don't believe the buzz hurts anything. From what I know the buzzing is a noise that always happens on the card, but generally humans can't hear it at the frequency the noise makes. For some reason with the 970 cards the frequency of the buzz is audible to the human ear during load and we are all picking up noises. As far as I know it has no negative effect whatsoever...just noise...which I'd like to eliminate

.I can guarantee that new PSU wont work. Its maybe just the design of the cards or something. My AX PSU is 80+ platinum. I highly doubt that its PSU thats doing it. Although i have been hearing some ticking from my PSU too but its again very quiet. Fans make the most noise.
