Hello.
I bought a refurbished Sapphire R9 280X to replace the Radeon 5850 on my aging computer. I've inserted it into the x16 PCIe slot, connected both 6 pin and 8 pin power connectors, made sure the switch on the card is in BIOS mode and tried to start the computer - which would not power on! No LED is on, no fan rotating, no beeps. As if the computer is not plugged in.
With the card still in the slot but its power disconnected, the computer starts, so it does not seems to be shortening the PCIe slot. The 6 pin power connector was used on the 5850 and I've tested both 8 pin connectors the PSU has by connecting each to the M/B, so I doubt they are faulty. The same PCIe slot was (and still is) used for the 5850, so it is most likely working fine. The PSU is rated for 620W, which should be more than enough for this card.
It seemed to be a faulty card, so I've returned it to the store - where their test machine not only powered on just fine with it, but also completed a 3 hours burn-in test with no problem whatsoever. I guess the card is operational as well.
So, what else could it be? The motherboard is Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H and the PSU is Seasonic M12II-620. Your suggestions will be most appreciated.
