Hi everyone,

My wife's work place use a wire network (with static IP).

The problem is that the cable is too limiting.

I have a TP-LINK wireless N router (Model TL-WR740N).

I am wondering if this is possible. To connect the cable to the wireless router. My wife's laptop is connected to the wireless router (wifi) and access the cable network.

If so, how do I set this up? Sorry, i am quite newbie at this so really need step by step instructions.

Also, if my wife's laptop is connected wirelessly, is it possible to use ICS to share the Internet to my laptop via a cable? I would imagine something like this: wire -> Wireless router -> my wife's laptop -> crossover cable -> My laptop.

Thanks!
Cliff

If the router has ports thats was they're for. Ethernet cables

Or just get something wireless. I doubt plugging a cable in the wifes laptop to you will work. I dont think thats how ICS works

If I were you I would get a wireless modem. Then both of you can use wireless

You should be able to make it work but it would be simpler to put a wireless card in your laptop and directly connect to the router.

I would be very sure your wifes work place has no issues with the wireless connection in the first place. THEIR security is now based on YOUR ability to secure the network. Maybe you are more skilled than their IT department but most companies have policies against what you are doing.

Don't even think about doing this. It could cost your wife her job. She should talk to the IT people about the possibility of getting wireless access to the network.

Thanks for your answers :)  I will just stick with the cable for now...(or get a longer one!)

FYI. My wife is volunteering (technically not work) but yes there could be an issue with their IT policy.
