Hi
from what you have said it looks like the battery has died.

sounds like a bad battery. Unfortunately, it is a mac and unless you are technically inclined, you need to bring it to apple for a new one under warranty

Hey there, Camelh!

Most probably you are dealing with a faulty battery.
I'd suggest to plug it in again and check if the battery is charging.
Go to the Apple > left side of the menu bar >
> About This Mac
> More Info
> System Report
> Hardware
> Power
Check what does it say about the battery? Capacity, cycle count, condition?
If the condition there says anything else than 'Normal', you have a problem on your hands.
Since the Mac is new, I'd suggest to contact Apple's tech support.
It is still under warranty, so you might have the option to get a replacement!

Hope this helped. :)

According to these stats everything seems to be normal as it should be, considering it is a new Macbook.
I really think you should contact Apple support for further troubleshooting without voiding your warranty and/or replacing your product if that's not possible.

Good luck!

That's easy. Take it back to the school and explain the problem.

Probably a good idea if you have been doing stuff that you shouldn't.

This is caused when there is either no battery inside your laptop or the battery is just broken. This happened with my old Macbook and still happens with my old Macbook. I now have a new Macbook Pro running MAC OSX Snow Leopard so it doesn't really matter for me anyways and the charger works perfectly. The only thing that I would recommend for U to do is to go to Best Buy or Staples and buy yourself a new battery for your laptop.
