on the ssd ill ahve the os as well as all the other softwares like the gpu driver, fraps, jave, adobe, steam, video players, and other softwares needed for a basic PC. no games will be installed.

will it suffice. will it be enough for the next few years
even when updates come for these softwares

Solution
It will be enough for just your OS and drivers - there will be space for some games and apps as well, though not too many...

You will have more space available if you use Win 8 that Win 7 btw as it takes less disk space...

In times past people have crammed the OS onto 64GB drives, but that really is pushing it...

Having said that, do look at larger drives as there is often little difference in cost, and the extra SSD space is valuable

As others have stated that is plenty of space for OS and applications. I put a 64GB SSD in my HTPC and it is quite happy with just over 50% used after installing playback and capture software. Plus it is so much cooler in the small case without a mechanical drive in there.

With Win-7 Home Premium 64 bit as well as some win critical updates and GPU drivers etc, and 1% set for restore, my 120gb SSD only has 51gb left.

Have a look at my C drive:

Used space: ~45GB, Win7 Ultimate.
If I add Adobe CS6 Master Collection: ~60GB.

Thanks for posting your folders as it gave me an idea to look at mine and I see what I did wrong. When I tried to do a fresh install of windows, I didn't clear all the partitions and it kept 25 gig of old windows files. Guess I know what I will be doing on Saturday!
