Hi all I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm kinda new to the PC gaming world and since I'm building a new rig I wanted to ask what GPU should I get If I want to only play on a 1080p TV (I'm a console gamer xD)? 970 seems like the better choice for the money but do you guys think it will run for example Dragon Age Inquestion, The Witcher 3 and other upcoming games in 2015 on max settings at 1080p? I have no intention of running GPUs in SLI by the way.

This is my rig when I'm done building:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus Hero VII
CPU: i7 4790k
RAM: 16 gb 1886Mhz Hyper
PSU 750W Cooler Master
SSD: 256gb Crucial MX100
GPU: GTX 970 or 980

Is this a good enough PC for gaming by the way?

Thanks in advance!

Both GPUs are actually pretty overkill for 1080p gaming.

Since the GTX980 is only 10% better than the GTX970 but cost 60%+ more, get the GTX970.

The 970 along with that CPU should plow through pretty much any game on ultra settings at that resolution. The only exception that I see is probably Crysis 3 with MSAA turned up.

Since 980 prices are inflated, 970 would be the better value.

Regarding overkill I differ in opinion. I don't believe in it entirely as in concerning the future. Investing in a top end card be it 970 or 980, im not basing this on fact but i guess majority of those buying a decent card would probably be conservative and hang on to them for quite a few years.

Games now that may run with ease at 1080p will find different with later games at the same resolution in years to come. A GPU considered overkill at the time of purchase would fair a lot better than something tiered lower to save. Not saying its a bad recommendation, people on a tight budget could use some advice to save, but anyone who is fortunate to afford a little more would probably save them selves buying another graphics card later on.

The answer is simple. Whichever you can afford, get it. If you're on a tight budget get a 970 if not get a 980
