Hi, currently i have:

Gigabyte ga 970a ud3p
AMD FX-6350 @ 4.4ghz
GTX 770 2GB

I want to upgrade to:

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5
Intel i5 4690k @ highest I can OC with 212 evo

I want to know how much of a performance increase this would bring me in games. I currently play all types of games...MMOS, shooters, most AAA titles. Also i decided it would be better to upgrade my CPU over GPU as i dont want my FX 6350 to bottleneck whichever new GPU i would buy. I do however, plan to upgrade to the GTX 970 at some point down the road. I want to be fully prepared for this years upcoming games. Suggestions are welcome, however I would like to stick with Gigabyte,Asus, or MSI mobos as those are the only ones i trust.

It will make a massive difference.
Also,I can see OCing the 4690K to about 4.2/4.3-ish GHz,but no way of telling that than actually OCing. :)

I normally recommend the Asrock Z97x killer, but it appears the price has went up on it again. :(  That gigabyte board will suit you just fine.

You already own a good cpu/motherboard setup: FX-6350 @ 4.4ghz should be enough for GTX970 w/ good performance. I dont think its worth spend money before you verify a real bottleneck.

This is a simple method to check for bottleneck:

1.
install MSI Afterburner for cpu/gpu test.
install HWiNFO32 or HWiNFO64, depending on whether your OS is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Install free new 3dmark (I like to use all: 3dmark 2003, 2005, 2006, Vantage, etc).
See: http://www.overclock.net/t/1229915/how-to-cpu-and-gpu-u...

2.
Check/register your present performance w/ MSI Afterburner, HWiNFO and 3dmark.

3.
Check/register your present performance w/ MSI Afterburner, HWiNFO and any game you want.

Just a suggestion :D

I know there's no bottleneck with my current set-up. I do notice sometimes that in older games that are more reliant on single core performance i take a huge fps drop. I was thinking the i5 might eliminate these fps drops? Also doo you think i could still avoid bottleneck with a 980 instead of a 970 with my current set-up?

Usually i dont consider a FX-6350 @ 4.4ghz the weak link in a gaming build. imho you should collect real data before spend both money and time. Single core performance should become less important in the future AAA games.

Anyway GTX 770 is still really good for 1080p gaming. I dont think you should buy a GTX970. Its maybe 25% increase performance.
