Overclocking FX-6300 Voltages

when i do not have an over clock my vcore voltage is at 1.38V then with OCed at 4GHz it drops to 1.26 steady and it will not let me take off auto voltage in the bios. Is this ok and if someone could shed some light on why i can not edit my voltages. thanks

First, state your system specs when posting.

Second, try manually putting in a voltage value instead of just hitting the "up" "down" "+" or "-" keys. some motherboards require a manual input, sucha s my gigabyte 970a-ud3p board.

you can see my system when you hover over my pic that isnt there and i have the same board you do i believe with out the p at the end and ive tried that it goes right back to auto when i press enter or anything.

So when you type in the value (F.E. "37" in the multiplier for 3.7ghz or 3700mhz) and press enter, it reverts back to auto? Sorry just trying to clarify.

Yea but its my Vcore and voltage that goes to auto. I can change my multiplier and other things just fine.

I assume you turned off LLC, coolnquiet, C1 Mode, etc.?

yea i turned off all the efficiency things and things that down clock in the CPU side and this is something i should probably know but ill ask what do you mean by LLC.

Loadline calibration. Basically it is just another efficiency setting. If it has the same bios as my board you can type in auto, low, high, extreme, or medium. I run it at medium because it drastically affects temps (I went from over 60c with it off to under 50c with it at medium). BTW extreme is off.

anything i saw with efficiency i turned off i do not recall that specifically but i probably did turn it off and i don't have issues with temps also i ran prime95 with an OC at 4gz when it was at 1.26v on the Vcore for an hour and it was stable and had no errors or warnings at the end i meant to add that to the original post.

Well if you aren't having any issues, auto voltage isn't a terrible thing to have. Just see how high you can go on the core clock with auto voltage. Use hwmonitor to keep track of your voltage and temps. Anything over 1.5v under load you may want to drop down .5-1.0ghz. Idk what your max temps are (you probably do tho ), but just jeep an eye on those too.

Auto voltage becomes a real issue when you reach a point where you start throttling and/or you have an unstable overclock OR it goes above 1.5v.

You can try updating your bios. If you can't adjust the voltage it really sounds like a bios glitch. check the gigabyte website and see if there are any notes on the updates that mention voltage controls.

a kind of off topic question have you heard of being able to OC to 4ghz with 1.26v and ill check those when i get off tonight. and my max temp is 44.5C.

It really depends from chip to chip. I haven't HEARD of it, but I do know the fx 6300 overclock pretty stinkin high on stock voltages. 4ghz is the turbo freq (if I am not mistaken) so reaching that at stock is not out of the question. I am running my phenom ii x6 1055t at 3.43ghz from a stock 2.8ghz with stock voltage.

Your temps look great. I would just see what I can get with the auto voltage unless you want to try a bios update (or maybe someone with more experience wants to chime in on something I may not have thought of). Just make sure to watch what temps and voltages do under stress test and you should be good.

i did figure out my voltage problem then i got anouther i have my voltage set to 1.308 when under a load it drops to 1.284. thats in hwmonitor and a gigabyte tool at 4.2ghz. my PSU is brand new too BTW like 2 days.

I have never seen voltages DROP under load, only increase. I would still say just roll with the punches unless it becomes unstable. If you get to an overclock you are happy with and its stable I wouldn't worry about it.

everything seems to be good. like you said untill it shows problems ill just get one i like thats stable. i read its called vdroop and as long as it stable its ok. thanks.
