hi, i have a gtx 780 ti classified right now and i am looking to buy another one for an sli setup. my question is should i just wait for the 980 ti or the 990? Or even a 980 sli setup? But is a 980 really worth getting over a 780 ti classified? or should i just go ahead with getting another 780 ti classified? Thanks.

I'd just get another GTX 780 ti since both GTX 980 and 780 ti are equal in performance.

No 980 is not worth an upgrade if you were choosing between 2 cards then i would have said go for gtx 980 but as you already have gtx 780 ti then no need to change that for few more FPS.
PLUS gtx 770 , gtx 780 and gtx 780 ti production has been stopped by nvidia as the new 900 series have taken their place.

The GTX 980 would be serious upgrade only if you're going from significantly lower GPU.

But the GTX 980 is just a bit more powerful the the GTX 780 Ti (in some cases), of course consumes less energy and produce less heat. But out of that, it's no upgrade when coming from a 780 Ti.

You'll be better with another 780 Ti and do SLI if that's what you want.
