Hello,

A month ago I purchase a WD HHD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... to have more storage for my bluray movies. Over 1.27TB of movies is now lost because the drive is no longer detected in BIOS or Windows Device Manager. I've swap SATA cords between other devices such my SSD drive & even move them all to different SATA ports and still nothing. The last time I was able to see the drive but the data was hidden and I use TrueSize and Recuva software to retrieve my lost data. Since then the drive was working fine, two weeks (this morning) and the drive seems to be completely dead. I can't wait to RMA this piece of junk but I need to know is there a way I can retrieve my movies, so far I only tried new SATA cables and ports, guess I'll try the power connector next, but its the same daisy chain cord that's feeding power to my SSD. 1TB HDD, and two DVD Drives. Help and suggestion is needed please.

It's possible that your drive has already failed since it is already not detected in your computer's BIOS. And the chance of retrieving your important stuff would be to send it to a data recovery lab . We have successful results using WeRecoverData in retrieving files from failed hard drives. After your files will be recovered you can then ask a hard drive replacement from WD.

Hey there, bhalton26!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your issue with the WD Black. :(
It is not really recommended for a secondary storage usage, it's designed for performance and high-end applications.
Here's a link how to RMA your product and get a replacement from WD:

I think you might be dealing with a defective drive.
I would recommend to check out the data recovery companies that we work with on our website:

However, if you want to continue troubleshooting the HDD I'd suggest to contact our tech support who will be so kind to walk you through more steps in attempting to access your drive:

I hope this helps. Good luck!

That's SuperSoph, I've already submitted a refund request to Newegg and sending the drive back at my expense. Is there another type of drive from WD that's 4TB and recommended only for video and movie storage?

I am really sorry for this inconvenience and all the trouble you are going through. :(

Yes, there are drives that are specifically designed for secondary storage solutions.
WD Green drives are reliable and secure, due to their Intellipower feature that reduces power consumption.
A lot of users prefer these drives to put in external enclosures and use as a backup, exactly because they find them reliable. WD Greens have 64 MB cache and up to 4 TB capacity choice.
I think you should check them out for yourself and see more of their features and details here:
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=780

I think you might find what you are looking for in those.
And hope I was able to help! :)
