Hey Guys,

I am thinking of buying a 4 month old Asus DirectCU II R9 280x for about 70% of the retail price on ebay. The product has a 3 year warranty but I am still a bit skeptical as I obviously won't be able to test it before buying.

The seller has 100% rating. Would the manufacturing warranty be a safe bet if there is any issue with the card ?

Solution
personally dont think its worth the risk because that one that he sold and receive could possible be a dummy account he and friend or he alone created to lure victims in .. i got tricked like that by a chinese person on ebay once and i saw what happen only after i started lokking at the feedback names .. i noticed all the feedback was from the same person continuosly and these persons had 0 ratings.. i would suggest if yiu stay away from the card if he dont allow returns ,its too risky in my eyes

what brand is it? I'm pretty sure sapphire is the only brand that doesnt transfer to another person but I could be wrong.

Ive bought plenty of second hand stuff and they both are running strong till this day

yea you would be safe.. there is ebay money back guarantee , should the card not work first you contact the seller and if he refuses to reply or getr the issue addressed then you cant file a dispute against the seller , you will probably be asked to return the item when ebay agents address the matter .. if the item is returned then you will either get the replacement or the money you paid for the item.. the only way you are not protected by ebay money back is if you failed to read the sellers terms of condition before purchase ..for eg ,, he stated that the item was untested and is being sold as is and he doesnt accept returns,, then you would be at a loss .. hope i helped

So there are two points to note here :

1. I messaged the seller about the return policy but he said that since it is under manufacturer warranty he won't accept returns.

2. As per this link : http://www.asus.com/in/About_ASUS/Warranty/ ,
"This warranty is can be availed by the first buyer only and is not transferable from one user to another."

These are my two main apprehensions. The seller has already sold one of these and has received positive feedback for it.

I am getting a NEW ASUS DirectCU II R9 280 ( non X) version for about $35 ( Rs. 2000) more. Is the performance difference justified enough to go for this used ebay one ?

before you buy from a seller check the ratings . check if there are any similarites between the person that left feedback for the seller and check and watch the country they come from.. i dont have anything against chinese nor am i racist its just quiete popular for chinese scammers to be on the site trying to hassle peoples hard earn cash

I am from India and the seller is from India. I wouldn't have been worried had the seller accepted returns or if ASUS hadn't mentioned that the Warranty cannot be transferred. The seller is around 3 years old but has only sold around 10 products. The first buyer has some ratings for himself but I obviously don't know about any connection between them. It seems it's not worth the risk.
