the mouse pas will not stop working unless you do some serious damage to it.. secondly i have yet to see a mouse that only works with one os ... i can confidently say it will work with windows 8 .. the whole point of the whole windows 7 supported is that drivers to let the computer identify the mouse by name was made for windows 7 .. i used a ps2 mouse from 1998 on my pc already and no problem.. it will just show up as generic usb mouse .. glad i could help

A new mouse would work. If it only says Windows 7, I'm 99.9% sure it will also work in Windows 8.
My mousepad on my old laptop worked just fine for all the years I had it, but I still used a mouse.
