I just built my first gaming PC and was pleased with how well the computer was running until I tried to run high performance games such as Skyrim or Fallout on ultra settings.

The games run at high FPS and look great, however my Club3d RoyalQueen 280x GPU starts to make a sound that is difficult to describe. It sounds almost like a disc being burnt by a cheap optical drive (which i don't have).

The sound also only happens when it is on a game and changing the fan speed to 100% outside of games does not reproduce the sound. If I unplug the HDMI from the card the sound also stops.

After watching videos of coil whine it doesn't match that exactly. It still may be a type of coil whine, but everyone I have asked is stumped. I am wondering if the problem is a defective unit that needs to be returned or if it is normal as coil whine has been claimed.

Thank you for your help.

Yeah I thought about that, however my GPU only takes DVI-D and my monitor only takes hdmi and VGA, plus I don't have any converters or cables of the DVI-D or MiniDisplayPort variety.

Thanks for the recommendation though!

:)  Have a nice day.

Unfortunately no. (quote from the product page NCIXUS).

"In the package
Club 3D AMD R9 280X graphic card
Club 3D knob hanger
Driver & E-Manual CD
Quick install guide"

Plus my monitor doesn't support dvi anyway.
