Hey guys, this is my first thread so im sorry if ive already broken a rule or something :p

My question is that i have a 700 watt power supply that ive been using for 2 years now and it ran everything perfectly. I recently purchased a Sapphire dual-x R9 280X OC edition and the box says that the recommended power supply is 750 watts which is just 50 watts over what i have right now.

Now iv'e had a 5850 for 2 years and its worked fine with now problems. Just a note, i don't intend to overclock anything at all.

These are my specs :

I5 2300 @2.8ghz (3.10 turbo)
8gb ram
500gb hardrive
HD 5850 (now upgrading to the Sapphire dual-x R9 280X OC)
a basic asus motherboard (P8H61-E i think)

and with all those parts my 700 watt power supply has performed perfectly with no faults. Will it still be able to run the dual-x R9 280X OC or do you guys think i should upgrade.

700W is more then enough as long as its a good branded PSU.

A Radeon R9-280X needs 30 amps on the 12v + rail and a 550 watt power supply with 1 - 6 pin and 1 - 8 pin PCIE power connections.

Even if your power supply meets these requirements , it's not a very good one , just keep that in mind.

Get an XFX or Seasonic 720/750W power supply and you should be set.
