I heard that this site is the place to go for networking and such questions. I want to buy some cat 7 wires. I've been searching Amazon and came across two brands one is tera-grand and the other is fosman. My question is are either one of these premium cables? Or could someone tell me the name of good cables. I also have links to the cables. Thank you

Is your entire network on 10GB/s speed? (Your computer's network card, your router/switch)?

If your entire network isn't capable of 10gb/s speeds, then the cable will not help you any. (i've not seen any routers with 10gb/s speeds)

I know that my network isn't 10gb. I just want the added protection that cat 7 offers. That's why I wanted to know if either of those cables a reliable and good.

What protection. Do you have some issue that you think it will solve. Shielded cable must be correctly grounded or it will actually act as a antenna and increase rather than decrease your interference. You need very special equipment that is designed to accept this cable that has internal grounding tabs to connect to the cable ends. Even if you were to attempt to ground each end to the building ground you have to be extremely careful that there is no issue with the ground or you get a ground loop which is a safety issue.

Just because the number is bigger does not mean it is better. You will see no difference between cat5e cable and any so called better cable when you are only running at 1g. The only time you even think to buy better cable is when you have a huge expense to tear the walls apart in the future when you need 10g. So you can consider it when say you are building a new house but even then you have to think if you will still be living there in 5-10 yrs.

For patch cables it is a complete and total waste of money. By the time you can actually buy 10g interfaces in machines and routers for a reasonable price they will be mass producing cat7 cables and you will likely be able to buy them at the dollar store.

Thank You everyone who has answered networking questions. My question was as to the quality of the cable build quality. Im aware of the specification of cat 3,5,5e,6,6a,7. Im sorry if any one misunderstood my question.

Lol Just go with cat6 given there are a ton of reputable sellers online. I love a great deal but I honestly dont buy without reading reviews anymore. Reviews are the best statistics we have and even if some are false , its better than nothing. This definatley applies for technology given quality control and the precision needed for manafacutring. I have been buying a lot of cat6 recently and some sellers provide the gauge which is a plus. This seller doesnt from what I can see and guage for ethernet and the jacks are what I look for but dont see any specifics listed except double shielded (which a lot of ebay sellers do and provide flimsy cable which could lead to interference. Good luck

What awg have you been getting on cat 6. All the ones I found were 26. But I did some research the tera grand brand that has double shielded cat 7. Have nothing but awg 24 cat 6a listed on there site but still don't give a awg for cat 7.

If you actually have a interference issue especially at 10g it is cheaper to use optical cables than to try use shielded cable. Go read the specs on shielded cable it MUST be grounded to equipment on each end preferable to a different ground than the electrical ground. The only way this is realistically done is if the equipment is designed to accept shielded cable when it was manufactured.

If you install it incorrectly it does not matter which cable has better numbers.

Well it depends on my use. For outdoor cameras I use direct burial which is a bit thicker. Never used cat7 direct burial but that extra coating helps to reduce interference. I really have never had a problem with that tho and I run ethernet near electric lines. Usually magnetic fields will develop around electric lines but I have had no problems even with cat5e
