So I had the ARRIS TSG modem/router and it worked just fine via ethernet and wireless connections with the exception that the internet speeds varied from time to time. Sometimes I had my full 50mbps and sometimes I had 7mbps and not to mention that it's wireless signal sucks.

I had the modem/router replaced for an Arris-Motorola one that's the "new" one my company is giving out for replacements and I'm able to connect via WiFi through my laptop but my computer won't connect via ethernet at all. I'd say it "attempts" to connect because I can see the little yellow warning icon on top of the Internet icon as if it was identifying something but then it suddenly goes back to no connection. I ran a troubleshoot test and it says that I must connect an ethernet cable to my computer but it is connected already. Also, both on the back of my router and computer ethernet ports where the cable is connected, the green light indicator blinks three times as if it is trying to connect and then stops and repeats the process.

I restarted my router and updated my network drivers and even told the technician NOT to change my router but he did so anyways and he wouldn't change it back to the old one because "the problem is mine and I should fix my computer". I literally ran out of ideas and I don't know why my computer won't connect via ethernet. I am able to use ethernet connections on other computers except for my desktop and it is the only one that gives me the problem with the new Arris-Motorola router. It seems as if my desktop computer and the router are having a connectivity problem.

What can I possibly do?! - please help, I'm really desperate!

UPDATE: My computer managed to connect to the internet via ethernet by itself for around 20 seconds and I was only able to open Chrome and by the time the Google page got displayed, it got disconnected again and it's back to the same stuff of attempting to reconnect and disconnecting or simply no connection at all.

First off check the simple thing, is the cable plugged all the way in on both ends, somethimes it can look in but if you dont get it 100% in till it clicks then it is not in.

Also check with a different ethernet cable

Open a command prompt and type "ping 127.0.0.1" and tell me if it gets a 4 recieved packets.

Also in the command prompt type "ipconfig" and tell me what it says for your ethernet adapter ip address and settings.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! - It did in fact receive 4 packets. As for the "ipconfig":

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Forgot to mention that I did check the ethernet cable on both ports and it is properly connected.

UPDATE: My computer has successfully connected to the internet by itself. I think it's been ~15 minutes and so far no disconnects. I'd still like to know what could of possibly caused this so that I know how to manage around if it happens again.

I'll report back with future updates.

UPDATE #3: I had to restart my computer to complete the installation for my Wacom tablet drivers and I'm back to square one. It is again "identifying" but after 3 secs it disconnects and tells me to plug my ethernet cable.
