Hi,
I currently have a:
AMD FX-8320
R9 270X
8GB RAM
Asus M5A97 mobo

Will an upgrade from these to these make any difference in games?
AMD FX-8320 > Intel i7 4790k
R9 270X > EVGA GTX 980
M5A97 > Asus Sabertooth Z97

Will these upgrades provide a large change in intensive games like the arma series and dayz sa?

More about : upgrade good

You'd get a performance boost, but if anything, I'd just buy a better quality CPU cooler and over-clock the 8320 as far as it can go (within thermal limitations)
The R9 270X is good, but this is probably the place i'd suggest you upgrade. Upgrading to perhaps an R9 290 or the Nvidia Equivalent would give you the best results for your money

Upgrade the GPU to 980 and then get the X99's,DDR4's and Haswell-E's or wait until you can get your hand's on them. The CPU upgrade to 4790K won't give you much boost.

Is there a processor that I can upgrade to which will give me more performance?

Nope. It's not that the processor does not have the power. The i7 4790K is much stronger than the FX-8320. It's just that games don't utilize that power.

Ok, so what kind of FPS performance increase can I be expecting?

Well, It varies from game to game. It can be 5 fps increase or 20 fps increase or no increase at all but at an average should be between 5-10 fps. If you upgrade to 4790K.

Well the GTX 980 would give you a huge boost. 20-50 more fps than what you will get from r9 270X.
