I'm really curious. This motherboard says it supports a maximum of DDR3-2000 overclocked, but i'm curious as to what would happen if i threw in DDR3-2400 RAM (as chosen in the pcpartpicker listing) as i'm not getting any incompatibility issues.

better stick with 1866mhz and aim for the lowest timmings. at least cl9 or ever lower. you wont have any luck with 2400mhz. also if overclocking will be in your plans GA 970A UD3P will be the better mobo. also going with FX 8320 will allow you to spend a bit more on the gpu!

Get 1600 or 1866 it won't run 2400 , some setups can't even run the 1866.

With a 8350 would look to a 990 mobo (and even then 2400 might be a stretch), the 8350 is rated up to 1866 at 1 stick per channel, have seen folks OCing and running 2133, but 2400 is extremely rare

I'm gonna go with 1866, now that I know this, but this is mainly a question for those curious, would the system a rt least POST, regardless of any throttling?

INitially yes, as when the DRAM is first installed it will drop to the mobos default, here I think the mobo initializes at 1066, but would guess if you set the DRAM to spec it will crash at boot and reset the BIOS to base settings

This is not a gaming rig, this is a music production rig with gaming being a low priority. i will not be OC'ing.
