Hi guys, about a week ago a relative of mine gave me his old pc. I was wondering what would be a good upgrade on the graphics card.
It currently has a r7 260x (1gb i think)

I was hoping for something around the 300$ range. I do play alot of video games and im hoping i can get a gpu to compliment that. I dont have the computer specs by memory, but when i get home i can provide that info.
Thanks a bunch!

Well, if you're not going to upgrade that monitor, I'd recommend the ~$220 GTX 760 2GB. Anything else is probably overkill. Specifically, this EVGA model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932 .

If you're going to bump up to at least 1080p eventually, then for only $30 more, go with a ~$250 GTX 770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127741&cm_re=gtx_770-_-14-127-741-_-Product

If you want to be more future-proof at 1080p, or bump up to 1440p+, grab the new ~$350 GTX 970.

What is the native (maximum) resolution of your monitor, and what are the other specs of the PC?

If you can stretch a little, the $350 NVIDIA GTX 970 was just released like, Friday. It's an amazing card for the money, and should be good for a long time, even at 1440p+.

Otherwise, the recently discounted NVIDIA GTX770 (if you can find one around $250), or the R9 280X are good choices, and should max out 1080p gaming for a few years.
