Help I can't connect to the internet

I have a MSI GD65 mobo and when I put my Ethernet cable into the killer LAN port and then plug the other side into the modem I can't connect to the internet. Do I need a network card or something? I use windows 8.1 oem. Also if I do need something extra I will be using this pc for heavy gaming so I want the best connection.

You will not get a internet connection if your lan chip does not work.
Look in device manager for devices with yellow exclamation points. That is an indicator that you need a driver for the device to make it work.
You can download such a driver on a different pc and copy it to a usb stick to install.
