Hi guys,

Can you help me with some advice. I am getting a custom pc for 3ds Max (rendering, animation) photoshop, premier, after effects. getting the, Intel Core i7 5820K Extreme with the Asus deluxe x99 and stuck between these two:

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2800MHz 16gb (4gb x 4)
Crucial DDR4 2133MHz 16gb (8gb x 2)

I know there are others like G,Skill etc, but was wondering between the two of them is there much difference for what i need it for, rendering etc? there is a difference if £50 and is that justified or is the difference minimal (rendering times etc) and you would not notice it? I am not too clued up on the technical stuff.

Note: the graphics card is the quadro k2000

Cheers guys

The Corsair is clocked faster, so I'll go with that.

The 5820k runs on a quad channel using DDR4.
You are leaving something on the table with a 2 stick kit.
If cost is an issue, I suspect that ram speed is not a big issue with haswell-e.
Here is a report on ram speeds with haswell. In real apps, you are looking at 2% type numbers.

As to brands, they are all good.

So if it leaves two spaces free with the crucial ddr4, is that good as I can increase ram in the future? And can you mix ram for example in the future buy corsair ram for the free slots even if I have crucial installed? I will need ram for rendering, and been told 16gb will be ok, but as I am buying a new system and it's hit my budget.

Since your application benefits more from adequate amount of memory versus the speed of memory, get a 4 stick kit and you will have the benefit of quad channel memory and sufficient ram. Something along the lines of a 4 X 4 kit for 16 GB of total memory will be plenty, and more would just be hitting decreasing returns.

Generally, when you mix brands of ram, the controller will run them at the speed of the slowest sticks. For best results try to get the same timings of ram, regardless of brand. Its much easier, however to just get more of the same part number from the same manufacturer, so you are assured of all your sticks running at their rated speed.
