Do i need to reinstall my OS [windows 8.1] if i swap out my CPU to something more powerful? or can i just download new drivers?

Solution
No you will not need to re-install your Windows 8.1, done it with my transition from FX-4100 to FX-6300 on Windows 7, didn't need to reinstall. Windows is stored on your harddrive so you won't need to reinstall.

Not necessarily, I transitionned from a GA-970A-D3 to a GA-990FX-UD3 and didn`t need to reinstall. I think you'll need to reinstall if your changing platforms, Intel to AMD, AMD to Intel, but I`m not sure and may be mistaken.

You don't need a reinstall OS, if you are just changing the cpu. even though it is recomanded to avoid potencial driver problems.

You were lucky, when you move from one chipset to another, older drivers want to work on a different chipset and most of the times crashes windows at startup. Even same chipset mobos crash when swapped.
