specs
660ti
amd 6 core processor
4gb of ram
1tb hard drive
750 watt power supply

My graphics card doesn't seem to be pumping out fps. I'm told that the 660ti is a fairly good graphics card that can play modern games on high settings. Recently games like bioshock infinite and dues ex revolution maintain 60fps than drop to 40 and so on. This occurs on the highest settings however when I switch it to the lowest settings it still only maintains 60 fps and still drops down to around 50. I looked at benchmarks for this graphics card it should run fine. I lag heavily on games like day z and rust to the point where I hardly play them. could someone recommend me a program where I can troubleshoot components of my computer i have no idea what the problem could be.

I think you are lagging because for one thing you have the graphics a bit too high. Face it, that GPU is about what a year and a half to two old now, so on new games it might not get the same level of performance as back then. Also, your FPS is probably dropping to 50 even on low settings because of a CPU bottleneck rather than GPU. Play on medium-high settings for a stable 50-60FPS. Don't do ultra.

That may be your RAM limiting you... Pop up the task manager and go over to performance and see your memory usage is at...

Try updating your GPU and cleaning your pc from junks and processes that are using your CPU. go to the task manager to check if your RAM is getting loaded and also the CPU. And if you wish check driver booster to update every driver on your pc :)

My gpu is completely updated updated liereaper I will try the driver booster thing turkey the benchmarks for 660ti are actually quite good and have been shown to play graphically demanding games such as bioshock infinite at ultra settings sure it's not future proof like a titan but it is more than capable of playing most current games on ultra with a stable 50-60 fps cpu bottlenecking might be the issue I don't know how to resolve that I will check my ram Dazinek thanks for the suggestion

My cpu never uses more than 30% power

30% power? do you mean 30% performance? If so, then we will have a problem here. How about your GPU does it reaches over 60~70% while gaming?

Did you check your Memory usage?...

well i downloaded an app called advanced system care and it said that my ram usage was at 60% while playing bioshock infinite at ultra there was no chart for gpu performance I'm sure that I can check iamlegend assumiing its performance does this imply bottlenecking or a faulty cpu? I
figure 6core should be fine should I buy an intel processor?

memory usage on task manager is 33% when nothing is being done and i think the 30% is actually utilization meaning the cpu is only utilizing 30% of its power currently when playing no games it's utilizing only 1% I will check where my graphics card stands any programs you can reccomend i can't find graphics cards in my task manager.

To monitor your gpu check GPU-Z at http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ its just like CPU-Z. From there you can monitor how your GPU behave when your playing or not. See and read to see if you think that's what you need.

sure although I will definitely check that out i might post my results here so i can get your opinion if that's ok

I downloaded it what should I keep an eye out here that could affect performance?

Everything like temperature, GPU load expecilly, memory usage fan speed...and core and memory clock

so my gpu load is at 99% my fan speed is at 50% 1417MB is my memory usage 30% is my cpu usage my temperature is at 73.0 C this is all at bioshock infinite ultra is there any problems indicated here should I overclock?

Well the GPU load its full that means its using everything it got. I recommend upgrading it or overclock it. or tweak the settings from you GPU

huh is there any component that could be affecting the performance of my gpu other than a bottlenecking cpu like say the motherboard maybe the hard drive? I looked up benchmarks for this game and it should be able to run bioshock infinite fine or maybe its a software compatibility issue on games like counterstrike which is obviously not as intensive I get 200 fps game like metro last lite i get about 50 on ultra settings I am planning on buying a 780ti and maybe an intel cpu but i want to make sure there isn't another hardware component bringing the performance down like a faulty motherboard or hard drive

Not really the only thing i can think of is the gpu getting overheated. But upgrading it to a 780ti its a great upgrade but upgrade first your ram... could you let me know whats its your motherboard.
