Just wondering cause I got a new Asus Graphics card(Asus R9 280) and I downloaded GPUTweak and in it had a option for 3D and 2D overclocking. I messed with the 3D overclocking and even at max settings my GPU temps stayed at a constant 30 degrees Celsius. However, when I overclocked in 2D mode, my GPU temps raised majorly. Whats the difference and is one used in gaming mode?

Solution
When gaming your gpu clocks up to what we call 3d clocks, So when you change 3d clocks it doesn't change because your desktop is not a game, it is 2D. So when you change the 2D clocks it actually is effective because you are on a 2D scene.

3D mode is gaming mode, 2D is when your gpu is nearly idle.
