Cheers Pals! :)

As a devoted fifa player it is time for me to upgrade my rig in order to be able to play fifa 15 lag free.
However, my PC has come to age and my mainboard doesn't really allow me to buy new, high end CPUs so I tried to find a CPU that could both match the system requirements EA published and my PC, as money is a bit short at the time.
I am currently running an AMD Athlon 64X2 6000+, along with an AMD Radeon R9 270x and 4GB RAM. Whenever a match starts (menu is fine) my CPU is running 100% and lag ensues.

My question is: Will an AMD A4 Series A4-7300 2x 3.80GHz So.FM2 BOX be able to solve my problems, as it is the only CPU to be affordable, or will I have to wait and upgrade my mainboard?

PS: Running on low settings will definitely suffice. I do not plan on having something like an ultimate gaming experience.

PPS: Sorry for any errors, I am not a native Speaker

Are you comfortable with overclocking?

If so, a Phenom II x4 or x6 might be a better bet.

fm2 is not a smart idea seeing as you have a 270x already.

If money is tight, post your motherboard model. You could have a cpu only solution.

First of all, thank you for the quick answers!

Motherboard Name: Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4

Overclocking might be a bit over the top for me, as I have to admit I'm not at all good with PCs to begin with :S, a friend had to order my GPU for example, as I would have not been able to name a single GPU :x Sorry!

Your motherboard supports am3 processors up to 125w.

First update the mobo bios to F10D.

Grab a phenom 2 x4 or x6., REMEMBER less than or equal to 125w~! Something like a 1100t, 940, or 955 etc etc.

That should get you playable.

Okay, that helped in terms of optimizing, but as those phenom 2x4/x6 do not seem to be sold by shops here in Germany anymore. As a result, i'd have to pay at least three times the price of my original pick. However none of you have really told me that it wouldn't work with that one. The idea when it comes to money is that I don't want to buy a CPU from 2009 for 100€ that is SIGNIFICANTLY worse than modern CPUs that I can also get for 100€..

I ran the Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad @ 2,4 Ghz (minimum CPU required given by EA) and the MD A4 Series A4-7300 2x 3.80GHz So.FM2 BOX through a tool that compares CPUs and the AMD got slightly better results although "lacking" a core. Common sense tells me that a CPU that is overall better than the weakest you have to get should work. But maybe my common sense is wrong :)

Most of us had the same common sense, but we were so wrong... EA did a "great" job and you will need more than 2 cores at all costs. I have one of the best dual cores that you can find and it just can't cope with the game, even though it is far greater than the Q6600, it just freezes frequently going to 100%.

On the other hand you can run the game with pretty much every quad core you get, as long as it's above 2 GHz. I'm pretty sure you can find more than plenty second hand CPUs in Germany. Just search for a Phenom II x4 955, as it is the most common thing you will find, and get one for less than 40 euros. You should be fine even without overclocking it, but you can decide for yourself afterwards.
