Hey! I'm new to building PCs and I was watching several videos on people building PCs, on multiple occasions I heard them say something about installing drivers for different components (not the OS), and I was wondering what they're talking about, or if I would need to install/update drivers. I don't plan on using an optical drive, but a USB flash drive. Thanks

Solution
A driver is simply a software that allows the operating system and programs to work with the hardware and to its maximum potential. A computer cannot use the GPU very well unless there is software installed that tells it how, so that's what a driver is for. Drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturer's site for your GPU and usually just double-clicking the installer file will automatically install the driver. Drivers can be updated via Control Panel > Device Manager

Thanks for asking the question! Allow me to explain. In order to keep your devices in shape and up to date, i would check your motherboard's website, in my case it would be MSI; and I would download those first. Then before you put the GPU in, install your drivers and just use the motherboard's onboard video device. Then plug in your GPU and you should be alright if you got all your drivers from the corresponding websites to your parts.

Drivers are just something you can get online from the company of whatever component. These come as both improvements or fixes.
