My computer is having problems handling Netrunner 14. It runs a bit hot at about 116 deg.F and my CPU seems to handle it all at about 80%. But sometimes when I am online, I lose the internet and have to go back. Another thing is when I am running some sound or video conversion software, the computer simply hangs up and won't proceed for about 30 seconds. CPU sue does not rise and temp stays stable. I usually turn the computer off after midnight, but not always. The motherboard, CPU and fans are clean.
I am using the latest rolling version of Linux Netrunner 14, 32bit. My computer is an Intel DG31PR with an Intel LGA775 dual 2.5GHz cpu and an an Intel 8280G I/O Controller Hub (ICH7), G31 Express chipset graphics and memory controller (GMCH) and Realtek 8111-GR Gbit Ethernet controller,Realtek ALCS 8111 HD audio. I use 2 2GB DDR Kingston RAM sticks. My hard drive is a Western Digital Green 1TB SATA2.
Maybe I've tried to store too much or installed more apps than I should. I don't know. Its the first time I've had this problem. (I have Verizon DSL 5/10, the download is sluggish) Should I just revert to another LINUX distro? Change IP? Build a new computer? Help.

When was the last time you cleaned the cpu/heat sink mating surface, and carefully applied some new heatsink compound such as Artic Silver?

(Heat sink paste/thermal transfer compound does not last forever, and it will eventually solidify/dry up, etc...)
