FX-6300 + HD 7770 v/s A8-6600K + HD 6570

No, the FX-series CPUs don't have integrated graphics; probably he meant to buy later another 7770...

To clear the misunderstanding: the A-series CPUs are also called APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) and has an heterogenous structure, having on the same die a CPU (dual- or quad-core) and a graphics chip (GPU); the FX-series CPUs needs also an external GPU, as they don't have integrated graphics.

So crossfire is possible with *one* HD 7770 and FX-6300?

To clear the misunderstanding: the A-series CPUs are also called APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) and has an heterogenous structure, having on the same die a CPU (dual- or quad-core) and a graphics chip (GPU); the FX-series CPUs needs also an external GPU, as they don't have integrated graphics.

These APUs can be used in three scenarios:

1 - by using the integrated GPU only;
2 - by using a discrete GPU in the PCI-E x16 slot (don't matter the brand/graphics power);
3 - by using a discrete GPU in the PCI-E x16 slot, working in conjunction with the integrated GPU (this is called Hybrid Crossfire); this is your case. To further complicate things, only a handful of discrete GPUs are officially compatible with the Hybrid Crossfire; for A8-6600K, the most powerful card which could be officially used in Hybrid Crossfire is the HD6670, but only the ones with GDDR3 (the newer A10-7xxx can use up to an HD7750 GDDR3). If you will use the GDDR5 variant, the APU's GPU will deactivate and the system will use only the external GPU.

If you already have the A8-6600K, then it's nothing wrong to try to use an 6570/6670 in Hybrid Crossfire. However, if you want to build a new system, you will be better off with an FX-6300 and the 7770 (or the newer R7-260x).

If you don't have the money right now for both FX and 7770 and don't have an older graphics card to use, I suggest you to go with an i3-4160 and use its integrated GPU (HD4400) until you will have the budget for the graphics card. In the end, it's all about the "bang for buck" and "future proof" kind of things (a lot of games still don't use more than 2 cores, so i3 will be faster).
