Hi there,

All of a sudden my Optical Drive (TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224BB ATA Device) in my PC has started to make some weird noises when I insert any disc. Secondly it is detecting the discs very slow i.e when I insert any disc in it, the auto-run dialog box appears almost after a minute and makes some weird noises during this period, but then starts to read the discs normally without any problems like slow reading speeds or so. Previously it used to detect the discs within 5-7 secs and it showed up in Computer (Windows 7) without any noises. Its only about an year and a half old as far as I remember. Could be it a dirty/dusty lens problem? Shall I purchase a Sony laser Lens Cleaner CD-ROM?

SPECS:
PROCESSOR: CORE 2 DUO E6600 @ 2.44 GHZ
MOTHERBOARD: OEM DELL 0HR330
VGA: NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600GT 512MB
PSU; DELL OEM 305W
HDD: SAMSUNG 320GB HDD SATA

Optical drive noises can only be one several things. A normal sound is that temporary whining noise as the disk spins up or down. If you're hearing anything beyond that... such as banging and clattering... that could either indicate a disk that's imbalanced in the drive or the drive doesn't have a good enough hold on the disk (in most optical drives, the disk is held in place magnetically -- in other drives, the disk is snapped into place which IMHO is better)

Yeah its that whining sound but now its making too much, the discs are also being detected after a min or so especially DVDs
