PC won't boot in any way

Hey guys,

So today I tried installing Windows 8.1 on my PC. However, after a reboot, all USB ports stopped working. Not only that, but when I try booting up the device, a message pops up saying "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key".

I have the USB with a Windows installation in a port, but that doesn't work. Also, strangely, it won't boot from my SSD while it did before. What do you think I'm looking at here? Is there a way to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

edit: sorry for the quadruple post....

Is it a desktop/laptop or is it a tablet pc and or netbook?

if its a desktop/laptop try this:
Check the BIOS to see if its recognizing the SSD. If it is, try to get to a boot menu and select the SSD. If it fails after that see if you can load a linux live cd, maybe ubuntu. If you can, the you can check the SSD for faults/errors. If there are none, there could be a bunch of thing that went wrong with the win 8 install. You might want to conciser wiping the drive and doing a fresh install.

If its a tablet pc and or netbook try this:
Hold the power button for 30 seconds and or remove the battery and put it back in. Try to power it back on and see if it boots.

Thanks for the reply.

It's a desktop, but I can't enter the BIOS so I wouldn't know how to check.

Did you build it your self? What are the specs? If not what brand/Model is it?
