Hi,

Does anybody know how to get hot plugable Ethernet working under osx mavericks? I am running a realtek chipset with driver and kext but if the cable is not "live" during boot I must restart the machine to get a connection, similarly if I unplug the connection and replug in the system does not reconnect and I have to reboot. It network settings it shows the Ethernet as yellow and states "self allocated IP" its not a router issue per say as windows is fine but there may be a way to fix this that I'm not aware of?

Hot plugging the network cable works just fine on Mavericks running on a Mac. I'd guess that the network drivers for your unsupported setup just aren't up to the task.

It might be a driver issue, but the hardware is supported with a proper driver and kext, do you know how to change which kexts are loaded as I'm currently using the 81xx and the hardware is more specifically 8111 which there is a more relevant kext for

Ah, sorry. If you are running a supported setup then you must be using a real Mac. Perhaps Apple support can help with this?

No this is obviously non apple hardware, as I just said it's a realtek 8111
Third party hardware however is supported with drivers and kexts, a lot of apple hardware is not made by Apple as I'm sure you're aware, this part is supported I'm just asking for help with the driver, if it was an apple part I would obviously phone their paid support, as I haven't paid for their support and it's not their hardware I'm asking on a public forum

Solution found - simply deleted the unsupported kext. You were right, it was the network drivers, they weren't up to the task, the correct ones work just fine
