Flashing BIOS gone wrong -- Dell Vostro 1540

I was updating a friend's BIOS a few hours ago. The process was at the stage of deleting the BIOS when we experienced a utility power outage. The machine went off almost simultaneously with the electricity.

Now it powers on, but all I see is the power LED indicating that its on ... nothing more (no visuals). How do I recover from this?

You either need to replace the bios chip or the motherboard(depends on the model). Dell systems don't have a backup bios.

Yep, replacement time. What you have now is a doorstop.

Found the chip on ebay for about $30. I wonder if those are soldered to the board. Would be cool if they have a seating

Just seen the model in the title. Unfortunately it's soldered to the motherboard. So unless you are really good with a soldering iron, you would need to replace the motherboard.
