I just got a Dell i3541. I removed the HD and installed the SSD. Everything seems fine.

When I boot it up with the Win7 install disc, it says it does not detect an HD? But when I goes into Bios, the SSD is right there. It detects my Corsair Force 3 SSD.

So, I don't know why Win7 is not picking up an SSD.

What am I missing?

the error message is "internal hard disk drive not found. to resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive"

i did a few times already. i removed the SSD, and reconnected a few times. and i always see it in bios

Check to see if your system's SATA controller is in RAID mode. Yes I know it makes no sense to use RAID mode with a single drive, but I've seen several manufacturers including Dell do it. Probably to simplify their tech support by having everyone run it regardless of whether they have one drive or two.

If it's in RAID mode, the BIOS will detect the drive, but it won't show up to the OS until it's configured under the RAID settings. You can do that, or switch the BIOS to AHCI mode (use IDE mode only as a last resort with SSDs - you'll lose some of the useful SSD features like command queuing.)

Edit: The IPv4 and IPv6 boot options are for booting an OS off the network. That's something some businesses do to control the software config of their computers and prevent users from making unauthorized changes.

Finally got it to work:

In BIOS > Boot Settings

I disabled Secure Booting and then enabled Legacy Rom Booting

Not sure exactly what those settings do, but I managed to get pass the 'Internal Disk Not Found" error and able to install Win7.

Anyone know what Secure Booting and Legacy Rom Booting are for?
