The GTX 970 just launched in India at 28000INR (~460$). Can I expect the price to come down to 20-22k INR within a year if AMD launches competitively priced cards?

Solution
Can't give you conclusive answer unless they're atleast announced. What I speculate however is, that, 1k series should be launched with x60 as this one skipped it, or atlest 960 should be launched by then, won't be as good as 970 surely.

I am going to build my rig in Q3 2015, so will the Volta/Pascal GPUs be out then?
That would be really great since the x60s of NVIDIA usually cost around 18k so the GTX 1060 should be able to perform as good as the 970, shouldn't it?

yes the official price announced by nvidia is 28000
but i havent found a single retailer quoting that price
a non reference design is about 20-30$ more expensive than the reference design
but a seller(nehru place new delhi) quoted rs 34500 yesterday for the zotac non reference design
and mind you nehru place is the place to go for the best prices
forget about the prices going down
i even doubt you can find the card at the official price

If the rumours are true then the 960 launches next month, and if the 1k series come soon then the 1060 will replace 960, won't it? Then it should be around 970 in performance don't you think so?

PrimeABGB is selling a Zotac (basic non reference) 970 for 27500. Check it out!

But still, it'd be quite close right? The 670 is pretty close to the 760 AFAIK?

Any idea when Flipkart/Amazon(IN) etc will start selling these?

How reliable are PrimeABGB? I'm thinking of ordering online from them as none of the major e-retailers seem to have 970/980 listed yet. Also it would be good to have more options in terms of manufacturers - eg: ASUS's website has issued a press release to the effect that 970/980 have been released in India but no one seems to be selling them online yet.

I assure you, you won't get a better deal, because the launch price is INR28000 itself.

You're right, good point. To clarify I meant more options in terms of brands - Zotac is the only GPU manufacturer I've ever tried so I thought at least this time I'd try something different like ASUS or MSI maybe.

Aaand it's out of stock already on PrimeAGB :(

I should have probably ordered it right away when I got the link but I was wary of being too hasty with an expensive purchase before the market had enough contenders in it.

Now I'll have to patiently wait all over again!

I am pretty sure Nvidia are gonna do with 9xx and 10xx what they did with 6xx and 7xx, although with a die shrink to 20nm (or 16nm according to some reports).

GTX 680 and 670 were based on GK104 just like 980 and 970 are based on GM104.

770 was basically an overclocked 680, resulting in 4% more performance.

760 was also an overclocked 670, but with an extra SMX disabled, resulting in 8% less performance.

Exact configuration and clocks can definitely vary this time around, but I expect 1060 performance to be in the same ballpark as 970 and 1070 Performance to be in the same ballpark as 980, with better performance/power ratio, thanks to the die shrink.

Noooooo, its not. And in my opinion, it will not be worth the wait(If you dont have any other card). AMD is dying pretty slowly and Nvidia has the monopoly over the market right now. So its not gonna happen. Look at the GTX660/670/680/760 price. Not a single potential drop.

BTW, Can anybody tell me why these cards launched on high price point in India. Like GTX770 is launched in US on $329 and in India its like $460. I mean, why's so big gap. Please someone solve me this puzzle.

NVIDIA India's official facebook page had commented on this. Simply put, taxes, import duty, etc were cited as the reason. Apparently GPUs are classified as luxury items too according to one commenter thus adding to the duty.

The real puzzle as far as I'm concerned is why very few shops in India are actually selling these cards right now and many already appear out of stock. Here's hoping things will change in coming weeks!

Not excited about the 970 anymore.
The rumours (pretty much confirmed) say the R9 3XX series will be unvealed in Q1 2015 with the R9 380X supposedly defeating GTX 980, and the 390X competing with the GTX 980 ti/ Titan II if they release it.
Besides, 380X will come with HBM Memory which is much faster than GDDR5 with more cores and more efficient too. The 380x is anticipated to be priced less than 970 while defeating 980.

So, there you go.
