Hi Forum

I was wondering if a "AMD Radeon R9 270x 2GB" graphics card would be compatible with a "Gigabyte 78LMT S2P" motherboard

Thanks in advance

Yes it is. Your MOBO has a PCI-E 2.0. That card is PCI-E 3.0. The GPU is backwards compatible with PCI-E 2.0 and will work fine.

As I have answered many people with your question the answer is Yes. I have an R9 270 from Asus on a old MSI 870 gaming mobo that is PCIe 2.0. Never had any issues even when overclocked. You should be fine.

The mobo that you have is PCIe 2.0 x16. A PCIe 3.0 is always compatible with older generation of PCIe's. And you do not have to worry about anything being bottlenecked because there are plenty of bandwidth for an R9 270X. Not even the R9 295X can saturate the full 2.0 bandwidth.
