Hey,

Today I bought an r9 280 x.

So far not much pleasure. When I game (elite: dangerous) after 5 mins the game freezes, and when I alt tab out, the screen starts flashing.

I tried the 14.4. and the 14.7 beta drivers. I tried the little bios switch on the card too.

I monitored temps with HWmonitor and they are all sub-60.

Im affraid its a power thing. Hwmonitor says vin0 min is .850 min and 1.100 max

I have an 8 pin and a 6 pin connected to the card. Both fans are spinning.

I have:

Corsair VS650
fx83230
m5a99fx pro r 2
1 hdd
1 ssd

Try downloading MSI Afterburner and bumping up the voltages just a tad... seems the r9 series sometimes doesn't get enough power and likes to wig out.

I think a 650 power supply should be fine. It only consumes about 240w under load.

Some pics i have found have dual 8 pin connectors. Can you confirm that your card does have a 6+8 and not 8+8?

Hey,

Its a Sapphire r9 280x Dual x 3gb.

Can confirm 8+6 not 8+8

Cheers,

Update: to remove the chance it was the one game giving hiccups, I ran 3dmark and got this error:

"Workload failer with error message: DXGI call IDXGISwapChain::p resent failed

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

Hey,

I was unable to resolve the issue. Downclocking a card with an out of the box overclock is not what I paid for.

I returned the card and got a 770gtx instead.

Thanks for all the feedback! Tomshardware's forums have been a great help to me.

Cheers.
