In about 2 weeks I plan to buy a gtx 980, but I've been hearing rumors about the gtx 980 ti being released in like 2 months, should I just get the 980 now, or wait and save more money? I dont wanna pay like 550+tax for the 980, just to have the 980 ti come out for like 600+ tax, what do? or will the 980 ti release at like 700$ (obviously this would just be speculation, but I would like someone to speculate on it's release price) so I can just not even think about it?

Yeah I would think at least $700 or more so if that is out of your budget then I wouldn't worry.

They probably have plans for a GM210 chip, but it will probably be released first as a workstation class card. Then the crippled ones will be released as gaming cards like last time. The Titan and then the GTX780. The 780Ti was the complete working chip.

If they are waiting on the 20nm process to be ready, you might be waiting through Q1 of next year.

The 780ti was the 780 with all the cores enabled. Unfortunately, the GTX 980 already has all the cores enabled. It is the 970 that has three disabled. So, by definition, there can be no 980ti for all the cores are already enabled.

I didn't know that.

However, Nvidia might make a whole new chip and disable some of the cores on it and call it the GTX 980 ti. Maybe, but we'll have to see next year.

OP, how long can you wait for a new card?

The 980 is the GM204 so it is more comparable to the 680 in the Maxwell tech stack. There is still a GM200 that will come out with more cores and that is the type of chip that the 780/Titan/780ti/Titan Black were based off of.
