I woke up to find my PC shutdown with the following problem.

It looks like it got too hot and melted the input and some sort of gel came out. Has anyone experienced something like this before? What would cause it to do this?

That's not gel per se, but liquid antifreeze that has Gel'd up upon hitting air. In other words it's leaking, I suggest removing that cooler asap before you get coolant on your components.

I assume the motor stopped working on the cooler and it popped, leaking onto the plug which shorted it.
